RIP Jun “Nujabes” Seba

It has touched us all. We play his music in remembrance of the great life he lived and the soulful music he left us. Many of us have never heard his voice yet we are distraught because his music resonated with us - tied with past memories, certain segments of our life. So in a sense - in his passing, we feel like we have lost a part of our own history.

For me, his music was essentially the soundtrack to my last couple of summers - heading home from work, going to the beach, or just chillin anywhere, any place. It was for the in-the-moment times where you would relax and mull over all the things you’ve been blessed with.  But no matter what the occasion, the vibe was always good.

This has got me thinking how powerful art is. He dedicated much of his life to creating beautiful music.  His art was beauty. But what I realized today is that beauty also transpires from the connections to the art itself. You see it in blogs, on facebook, on twitter - it has moved us. We all have a story. We all have a favorite song(s). His art is ingrained in the heart, mind and soul of many listeners around the world.  That’s the character of a true phenomenal artist.

Jun, thank you for the memories, for the music and for opening my eyes. We - as artists - offer the world with the purest expression of ourselves. We heard who you were through your music and we loved it, man. Your art will continue to live on and uplift us all. Rest in peace.
